Where Oh where do we begin, so many beautiful things, so much inspiration?

The Next Christmas Gift Guide 2009 is full of pretty cake & tea party inspired products. Our favourite's are the slice of cake money box(£8.00) and the cupcake teapot(£8.00).For further information check out the Next website, www.next.co.uk

                'The Darling Buds Of May'

This fabulous series, based on the books by H.E.Bates, has just made a welcome return to our screens (weeknights ITV3 6.50pm).
Follow the exploits of 'The Larkin Family' in this delicious romp through the English countryside.

I love the series so much, that i've also got the books.
The final book, 'A Little Of What You Fancy',  was never adapted for the small screen, for reasons which will become apparent.
But, having read it a dozen times or more, it is my favourite.

Despite an air of impending doom, the book manages to pull it off.
Packed full of English eccentricities and copious references to hearty fayre such as 'roast leg of pork and stuffing' and 'pheasant', all washed down with 'Champagne' and endless bottles of 'Chambolle Musigny',
it will have you smiling and salivating till the very last page...I love it!

The Boys are back in town....

The wonderful  'Palmers Green Antiques' is back!
Relocated close to it's original shop on the corner of Hedge Lane, Palmers Green, London N13.
Smaller, but no less fabulous and the gates to heaven as far as we're concerned. Most recent purchase, this deliciously curvy green dish, a bargain at £4.00

'Seeds of Change'

'Organic Roasted Pepper & Tomato Sauce'

This versatile little jar of sauce is the next best thing to the homemade version. Great with it's natural partner Pasta or as an accompaniment to grilled meat or fish. Our favourite way is 'a La Flamenca' with eggs and a few mushrooms on the side.

When you've done with the contents, soak the jar, remove the label, add some seasonal blooms, a gorgeous bow and turn it into this......Shh who's to know?

"How do I love thee,
 let me count the ways"

Every other year we'd spend the six weeks summer holidays visiting relatives in Spain. One of our favourite summer activities was to go snail picking in the nearby cornfield. Mum would clean the snails well and then cook them in a delicious sauce which she made from tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic and bay.
On one occasion we had to go out for a couple of hours, so Mum left the live snails covered in a large saucepan ready to be cooked on our return, a weight had been placed on the lid to stop them from getting out.
Later that morning as we turned into our street we were met by the sight of our lunch fleeing for it's life up the side of the building. The snails had collectively mustered up enough strength to force open the lid of the saucepan and had escaped through the decorative ventilation blockwork that lined the side of the building where all the kitchens were located.
